Steps Tracks
Whether you’re after excavator tracks, agricultural tracks, Dingo/Toro rubber tracks, ASV tracks, dumper tracks or skid steer loader tracks, knowing how to read and measure the replacement you need will go a long way in minimising site downtime.
Fortunately, regardless of the track type you need, they all follow the same measurement principles, which is as follows:
Width x Pitch x Links.
- Width (mm) – outside dimension of track
- Pitch (mm) – point to point between each link
- Links (total #) – number of links for the whole track

Gather Tools including measuring tape or ruler, notepad, calipers (if available).
Identify Buffer/Mount: Determine specific type and shape (e.g. round, square, oval).
- Measure Diameter/Width:
- Circular: Across the center.
- Rectangular/Square: From one side to the opposite.
Measure Height/Thickness:
- Cylindrical/Circular: From base to top edge.
- Rectangular/Square: From base to top surface.
Record Measurements including diameter/width, height/thickness.
Consult Manufacturer Guidelines: Check for fit and tolerances.
Compare and Confirm Size: Ensure alignment with recommended sizes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Converting from steel to rubber or vice versa can sometimes be problematic so don’t risk it unless you must. For example, many machines have different track spring tension settings between steel and rubber track machines. Other machines run alternate sprockets, idlers, or even rollers.

- Please note that all returns are subject to a handling and administration charge of $25.00 or 10% of the invoice value to a maximum value of $500.00. Furthermore, you will be responsible for all costs and expenses incurred (including any freight charges).
